Photographic Travel Tips – II

The best time to visit the desired destination (in relation to our photo project) will have to be studied with extreme caution. For real-time forecasts and weather conditions, simply consult the usual international sites such as Weather.com or Accuweather, while on the local institutional sites we will find advice and information on the climate in the various months of the year.

When traveling to cold climates, it is essential to wear warm clothing. It is a good idea to have several layers of loose clothing, cover the extremities, a hat or cap for the head and gloves for the hand. Don’t forget to cover ears in the cold. If you are exposed to wet weather it is very important to have waterproof clothing and shoes.

Traveling to hot weather can be dangerous in the same way. You need to stay hydrated by drinking lot of fluids, try to acclimatise yourself to the hot weather prior to your travel, apply sunscreen and wear loose, light colored clothing. Rest regularly and stay in the shade whenever possible. If possible plan your schedules to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day and outdoors during the cooler parts of the day.

Deep studying the climate is vital not only for our health but to ensure flawless functioning of our photographic equipment too. However, I will talk about this in a dedicated article.

Extreme conditions can lead yourself to feel pain. Here I was in -25°C in Warsaw, Poland during a really cold January.

During my trip to Poland, for example, with three pairs of gloves, my fingers were hypothermic but my cameras still worked very well. The outside temperature was -25°C. The only solution that came to my mind was to go into the first place to drink something very hot. It took almost two hours to recover from that situation.
